New Year, New YOU!

Picture

“Oh, no!” Exclaims the musician-to-be. “I can’t believe it’s 2023 and I have yet to learn to play the piano.” She grabs a piece of dusty sheet music that her grandmother used to play. She blows off the cover and smiles. The cover reads: Claire de Lune.

She places the sheet music under the familiar piano bench, closes the lid, and sighs. Perhaps she can get the motivation to try? Maybe it will
be too hard? What if she found a teacher but they weren’t patient or fun? Naw, forget it. She will think about that later.

Does this sound like you or someone you know? The truth is, learning to play a musical instrument can be so much fun! It is among one of the most common new year’s resolutions. The great news? We can help you bust the myths that may be blocking you from reaching out to learn more. What have you got to lose?

Don’t let another year go by. Have FUN learning to PLAY this year! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rolling Out The Red Carpet!

Picture
Father and Daughter posing at the Red Carpet Christmas Recital 2022!

Picture

Everybody knows that if you join a quality music school, they probably have recitals. The thing is, there is a reason why they are so common to do. They are fun and effective! But when we think about the experience for students and families, we always ask ourselves: “Can we do that better?”

Let’s have real talk. Ever been to a recital that drags on and on and...well, ON? It’s not that we don’t love music and supporting one another. But again, this is real talk. We came to see our loved one, a few other students, and then be able to feel our legs when we finally stand back up. This is why we do our recitals in sections, 45 minutes at a time! This way, you can stay if you want (and many do).

Real talk some more. Ever felt like a recital was a talent show? More of a competition than a chance to have individuals shine where they are? Well, we have the core belief that everyone needs to celebrate the moment where they are. Does someone have the courage to play just a few measures of a nursery rhyme? We’ve seen that. Is there a student thrilled to showcase a challenging piece that took 100 hours to master? We’ve seen that, too!

Oh yeah, and you probably won’t believe me. But we have also seen and adult guitarist write a song to propose to his then fiance at the event! That took guts and he was nervous. She said yes by the way.
So when it comes to recitals, we want so much for you.

We want you to WANT to come and showcase who you are! We want you to love inviting friends and family to see and hear you sing or play songs that light you up on the inside. That’s what it’s all about.

But what if we could do all of that for youPLUS even more? Enter: THE RED CARPET!
The truth is, everyone can learn to play or sing. That’s the beauty of music. It may take some a bit more time. It may take trying several instruments until you “land” on the right one for you. But it can be done. Not sure you can? Ask us how!

But the thing that not “just anyone” can do (at first) is perform in front of a live audience. That takes courage. That’s why we like adding the red carpet. It shows that the performers are in an elite moment of his/her own. A chance to shine in the way you were designed. And exactly where you are. See you at the next recital!

We can’t wait to cheer YOU on.

Last newsletter we did our “Who’s Reading Our Newsletter” contest where we asked:

Question: What instruments are in our school’s logo?
Correct Answer: Piano, Guitar, and Microphone.

Was that an easy question? Sure! Why do we do these little drawings? For one, we all LOVE fun trivia. Plus, we ALL love winning stuff. But also, we value knowing what our newsletters can do for you to serve you and it has always just been a fun way to do just that!

Winners: Email info@littletonmusiclessons.com to claim your PRIZE! If you did not win, keep playing. We hope to see YOUR entry next time.

Music Tip Of The Month:
Celebrate The SMALL Wins

Picture

Look at this picture. What does it say to you right now? How does it illuminate an experience you are having right this very moment? When we learn to play music, we have to have joy. Without it, music is not really any fun. We have to have the right techniques. Without that, we are going to work hard towards the wrong habits.

But often overlooked is the power of celebrating the small wins.

Naturally, this is a great picture to show your kids. You can remark how the person on the left is able to get to the top, while the person on the right, well...they are stuck trying to even reach the first rung on that ladder! And what would happen if they even reached that? Would they be motivated to keep trying?

We love this picture because it truly does reflect a core belief we have at Littleton School of Music. Of course, we couldn’t pass up another chance to use the word “ladder” as we do with the Musical Ladder program.
But it also gives us a chance to understand what is really going on with an incentive program like that. It is so key for us to have small goals. We have to know that achieving even the smallest wins can help us to reach the ultimate heights in the end. It’s not about having a participation ribbon. But it’s about measuring our goals realistically. And then... CELEBRATING!
